Stolen Girlfriends Club showed their summer collection 'Hello Country/Goodbye Nightclub' and launched their first bags range at a catwalk show tonight inside their workroom space (soon to be shop) in Grey Lynn.
The summer collection consisted of big florals teamed with leather - on both boys and girls. Models wore black Jeffrey Campbell boots and were accessorized with 1980s white chipped-coral necklaces.
Hair was side-parted with a loose back bun and make-up featured a graphic eyeliner, flushed pink cheeks, and rosy lips.
Silhouette-wise it was a structured, fitting collection that was nipped at the waist with peplums, or flared out with full miniskirts. Shirt dresses featured strongly for women, with contrast panels and cutaways giving geometric shapes to the floral prints.
I chatted to Stolen Girlfriends Club designer Marc Moore after the show.
Marc said the collection is named loosely for the Groove Armada album title (but swapped the other way round) 'Hello Nightclub/Goodbye Country'. The SS13 range is based around a country girl redoing her clothes, for the town.
The floral prints were designed in-house (in previous seasons, their floral prints have been designed by famous New Zealand artist Karl Maughan) and are the blooms of drugs: opium poppies and daytura flowers.
Marc said it is the first time they've properly done a line of bags. They are floral canvas with genuine leather trim (made in Indonesia and China) and we bet will fly out the door.
The other major pattern was a stripe; a crochet-esque woven knit in mini dresses, women's tops, and on menswear, too.
An unusual over-skirt detail on a leather dress.
Just a good ol' country girl: a chambray pinafore dress.
This cornflower blue dress below was actually one of my favourites of the whole collection. I liked the cut and the panelling emphasizing the waist.
