Fashion at Flying Moa
Flying Moa hosted 'Chic Moas', a fashionable afternoon that treated all the senses, with fashion styling, make-up demonstrations, and the chance to try on Moa clothes and meet their designers, all over a sumptious lunch.
The fashion lunch held on Sunday 17th June was a total sell-out success, with Flying Moa regulars keen to see and hear all about how to dress for their shape from stylist with Christina Jane, and take years off their face with modern make-up tips from our fave make-up artist, Christina Dellar.
Flying Moa in Mt Wellington greeted guests with a flute of Allan Scott Cecilia Reserve Brut NV bubbles...
...before a lunch of market fish and prawn on orzo or lemon pepper chicken, followed by a platter of mini desserts.
Fashion stylist Christina-Jane showed us how to, "use clothing to adorn yourself." She says a store should know your body, how to dress you, and use proportion correctly for your shape, but so often they don't do this well. There are five main shapes: athletic, cone, inverted triangle, hourglass, and apple.
"New Zealand women need layers due to our climate, and Moa are really good at doing that" Christina Jane says.
"An empire line for women with a fuller figure is your best friend" she states, putting a merino piece and a silk tunic by Juno from Moa on the model.
She emphasized the importance of using belts wisely, and of good underwear. If you want more shape, choose a top with a seam down the back which gives shaping. Bigger busted women - show your assets! If you are long in the waist, wear a wide belt. NB Wherever you put your belt buckle, the eye will go to the buckle so put it at the side to create asymetry, or even at the back! Be creative.
Elongate your body by wearing long jewellery down the front of a one-colour outfit. Bring colour and life through accessories.
Black is where your investment should go - for instance, a quality black wool suit or coat - and spend less on seasonal pieces, Christina-Jane advises.

After the meal, guests had the fabulous opportunity to try on Moa's clothes for themselves, aided ably by the designers and store managers, pictured below. Thread bought a blue printed bodice dress, and a matching blue merino bolero. So gorgeous! You can buy Moa at 413 Richmond Road phone 09 378 8484 and find them online at www.moa-unlimited.co.nz.
