MoAD Market Day in Britomart
As we inch closer to winter, it is getting harder to get up and face the real world away from our beds.
Last Saturday though was a different story because of one distinct reason: MoAD’s first Market Day was on at Tyler Street Garage in Britomart, downtown Auckland, and Thread was there to see why it’s worth a visit (and worth the separation from your duvet.)
This Market Day is a definite stand-out because of their focus on art and design. As Aroha, one of the minds behind MoAD, explained; they are not a crafter’s market. Their objective is to give different artists a chance to showcase their works and in the process generate sales.
I’d say, without a hint of a doubt, that this mission was accomplished.
They intentionally handpick just a few artists to showcase their works giving each of them the limelight they rightfully deserve. It was like checking out an art exhibit – for free. Nobody loses in this kind of scenario, I reckon.

Major props must be given to the organizers for selecting an outstanding group - from all sorts of artistic disciplines - for their first Market Day. They had jewellers (photo #3, 6, 7) and ceramic artists (below).

They also had upcyclers...

...and graphic/print artists to name a few.

Make sure you visit MoAD’s Market Day on the last Saturday of the month if you’re after unique treats, great artistic immersion, and design exposure. Of if you’re an artist wanting to showcase your goods, do check out their website www.moad.co.nz for more information.
